CODES OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND PRACTICE

Members and Fellows of the Fingerprint Society are governed by the Rules of the Society. In accordance with Rule 8 all Fellows, Members and Honorary Members of the Society are bound by this Code of Professional Conduct and Practice.

The clauses given below represent the general standard of conduct to which the membership must adhere when carrying out their professional duties. In the event of a member being found to be in breach of this Code, the Committee has the power, in its absolute discretion, to expel or suspend that member from membership, or from any grade of membership of The Fingerprint Society, or to apply any lesser sanctions as may be appropriate. In exercising such power and discretion the Committee may act only upon recommendation from the Executive Sub-Committee.

  1. Members shall present themselves in such a manner as will uphold and dignify their professional status and the reputation of The Fingerprint Society.
  2. Members shall exercise all reasonable skill, care and diligence in the discharge of their duties and, in so far as any of their duties are discretionary, shall act fairly and in good faith.
  3. Members shall act in an equitable manner towards their employers, fellow Society members and all others with whom they deal in the course of their professional duties.
  4. No member shall corruptly offer or accept any gift or inducement.
  5. Members shall ensure that advertisements and other public announcements with which their names are associated are not as such as would bring The Fingerprint Society into disrepute.
  6. Members may only use in conjunction with their names the Society suffix letters to which they are entitled. They shall not use any other suffix letters or description to which they are not entitled.
  7. Members shall at all times and in all respects conduct their professional and business operations within the law.
  8. Members knowingly condoning a breach of this Code by fellow principles or employees shall be responsible as if they themselves had committed such a breach.
  9. Members shall co-operate fully with any investigations into an alleged breach of this Code.
