Evidence may be generated in an unlimited number of shapes, sizes and materials which may be suitably sampled with the Harris Uni-Core™ at the crime scene or in the laboratory. Crime scene evidence may include furnishings (drapes, carpeting, towels, etc.), personal clothing, living tissue, food, tobacco products, questioned documents, currency, packaging, etc. The collection of small samples at a crime with the Harris Uni-Core™ may, in some cases, avoid shipping larger pieces of evidence back to the laboratory. This allows the crime scene to remain intact longer for different forensic teams to assess.
This may also save on some steps by providing evidence in a form that can be more rapidly processed through the system thereby decreasing the turn around time for results. A CSI unit may more accurately select areas to sample based on their interpretation of the scene rather than shipping bulk evidence back to the lab for mass sampling. Deceased’s clothing may be sampled at the scene and prior to the body being transferred to the medical examiner, thereby providing faster results in the first 48. Pre-screening and sample collection at the scene may save some laboratory costs by eliminating a step in the laboratory process.
